Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar is one of the premier institutes of Department of Biotechnology (Government of India). Most of the ILS labs are well equipped with basic instruments at par with any lab in the US or Europe. ILS is furnished with several central facilities with very high-end sophisticated instruments. Imaging facility has a CX7-LZR (Thermo), seven color high content screener for high content image analysis with fully automated liquid handling system (Beckman). There are two confocal microscopes, one is Leica SP5, and another one is super resolution TCS SP8 STED microscope. Besides that, for live microscopy, we have fully automated Zeiss Cell Discoverer 7 (first in India) and other smaller fluorescent microscopes. Our FACs facility is fully loaded with very high-end flow analyzer and sorters including Helios CyTOF System (first in India), MoFlo Astrios Cell Sorter, CytoFLEX, Amnis imaging flow system, Flow Cytometer, BD Calibur, BD Accuri 6, and many more. Other high-end equipment includes transmission electron microscope, NGS Illumina NextSeq platform, Sanger sequencing platform, Nanopore system, scanning electron microscope, atomic force microscope, high-end spectroscopy instruments (SPR, ITC, etc), MALDI TOF/TOF. In short, ILS has most of the equipment’s that are required to perform high-end and sophisticated scientific research in biological sciences. ILS have state-of-art BSL2, BSL3, greenhouse facility, zebrafish facility, and animal house facility. Most of the central facilities are very much available to internal as well as external users. The research environment in ILS is very conducive. ILS faculties work in frontier areas of infectious diseases biology, cell biology, cancer biology, autoimmune diseases, and plant biology and have intra- as well as inter-institutional collaboration. ILS seeks and encourages opportunities to collaborate with national and international scientists in the field.
